About the Author
Colin P. Clarke, PhD, is associate political scientist at RAND, lecturer at Carnegie Mellon University's Institute for Politics and Strategy, adjunct professor at the University of Pittsburgh, affiliated scholar at the Matthew B. Ridgway Center for International Security Studies, and an associate with the Initiative on the Study of Emerging Threats (ISET) at New York University. He appears frequently in the media and has published articles and op-eds in a range of scholarly journals and news outlets.

Great book with in-depth analyses

This book is a must read for a widespread understanding about the terrorist and insurgent groups past and present around the world. Each chapter is well written and organized into small sections by topic, making it concise and easy to follow all the different aspects. It provides a case-by-case analysis on 7 different organizations located in various regions covering now defunct groups like PIRA to ISIS, who is currently and rapidly gaining ground to provide a historical perspective about how they have changed over time. By covering different funding operations and organizational networks of each group, it provides in- depth analyses of what goes on in the groups and how some of them are still going strong with widespread support. In light of US involvement in the global war on terror, it seeks to look at the issue from a different viewpoint. It looks at how to dismantle organizations from the inside and cease their operations in addition to fighting them from the frontlines.

Outstanding! Very interesting and informative. For those who want to know how terrorist organizations fund their activities, this is a must read. The book provides insight on ISIS funding and operations as well has the funding streams of criminal organizations and terrorists throughout history. Mr. Clarke offers counter-terrorism techniques to terminate criminal organizations throughout the world. This book should be a requirement for all world leaders.

This is a very informative book that is also easy to read as well. Each chapter is consistent in the organization of information and is detailed without being overly verbose. There is an impressive amount of in-depth analysis on 7 different terrorist organizations in various regions of the world. The book differentiates terrorist activities as either part of the grey economy and dark economy and gives readers a clearer understanding of the financial and organizational activities that these terrorist groups undertake to continue their operations. A must-read for anyone interested in the inner workings of the financing of terrorism!
