This is a great book that every child should have the opportunity to ...

This is a great book that every child should have the opportunity to hear and read. Younger children will need someone older to read it and explain the plot, but then enjoying books with a loving adult who takes the time to read to them is what forms the love of reading anyway so that's ok. The illustrations are simple, and the predictable text that goes along with the illustrations makes it a good book for emerging readers to enjoy. It also teaches some positional vocabulary and is entertaining . . . although I can't help feeling just a little bit sorry for the fox at the end. ;-)

Goody! This book is still in print

Shopping for a book for the 2yo child of a friend, I was delighted to find this long-time favorite of my own children is still in print. Picture-heavy, at the expense of words, the book is best suited for kids from 2-5, not for those who can read.
Rosie is a rather clueless chicken who leaves the coop to take a little stroll. Waiting for her is the proverbial fox, but every time he makes his move, some mishap unwittingly initiated by Rosie puts him out of commission. Rosie wanders on, completely unaware of the mayhem left in her wake - and gets back to the chicken coop none the worse for wear. The fox, on the other hand, probably thinks switching to vegetarianism might be a good idea.

Darren N. Nesbeth earned his BSc in molecular biology from University College London (UCL), UK, and his PhD in molecular cell biology from Imperial College, London, UK. Mark Brummel

Mark Brummel is a freelance all-round Microsoft Dynamics NAV specialist, focused on helping end users of the product. With http://nav-skills.com/, he evangelizes and documents the 'NAV way'. This is a combination of architectural principles and design best practices, formalized in a workshop called Master Class for Microsoft Dynamics NAV Application Architecture and Design Patterns. All three elements apply to the original Navision product that was shipped in 1995, and was extracted, updated, and documented in this methodology. He also organizes hands-on workshops together with a group of MVPs and MCTs from across the globe. Mark started in 1997 as an end user, and worked for 8 years for the NAV partners after this. Coaching colleagues and troubleshooting complex problems is his passion and part of his day-to-day work. I have read a lot of NAV books of which I thought: this is a book every C/AL developer (and preferably everyone somehow involved in NAV development) should read.

I've also had some NAV books on which I preferred I never had my hands (or eyes) laid on it.

Is this a book in either of these categories?

No, it isn't!

It is a book that every C/AL developer (and preferably everyone somehow involved in NAV development) MUST read! …. Twice! … At least!

This is really the holy bible of C/AL development!

The book explains how you should develop to make it more readable, maintainable, upgradeable.

I am not going into details, because you should not read ABOUT it, but read it!

The essentials of what makes NAV great

Much of what is in this book is stuff that every NAV professional should already know. Mark took the better part of the past 2-3 years to actually think about capturing the essence of the patterns that we find in NAV. By breaking down the building blocks of the application, you get a great sense of how it all works, and how to use that knowledge to extend the application.

This book is on my short list of must reads for consultants, business analysts, designers, and developers; anyone who works in this field really. If you deal with NAV in any way, this book will help you understand.

This book is an excellent resource for all IT staff involved in a NAV project. Mark Brummel is an advocate for standards and convention, and he describes his ideas very effectively and simply. In addition, this book highlights changes from previous versions of NAV, so this book is an invaluable resource on a project moving from an older version of NAV to a newer version.
