About the Author

Elaine Hsieh holds a MA degree in Translation and Interpretation from the Monterey Institute of International Studies and a Doctorate Degree in Health Communication from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has worked as a telephone interpreter for the AT&T Language Line Services and as an onsite interpreter at many different hospitals, including the UCSF Stanford Health Care. She is a 2015-2016 Core Fulbright U.S. Scholar and an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in Communication at the University of Oklahoma.

Dr. Hsieh has been involved in research on bilingual health communication for over 15 years. She obtained a 3-year NIH grant as the Principal Investigator to examine providers’ needs in interpreter-mediated encounters. The American Medical Association’s Office Guide to Communicating with Limited English Proficient Patients have adopted her work as the primary theoretical framework in conceptualizing different types of interpreters and their corresponding impacts. As a Fulbright Senior Research Scholar, She conducted research on the effects of language barriers for immigrant in Taiwan and is Associate Editor of Journal of Immigrant and Minority Health.

As intriquing as Kane itself

The making of Welles masterpiece is almost as fascinating as the movie itself and Harlan Lebo has provided a very readable account of how Kane was made. I think this is as good as Pauline Kael's 1971 `Raising Kane' though that has the very real advantage of having the shooting script and the interesting RKO Cutting Continuity script. Lebo's book doesn't need these as he looks at Hollywood, how the movie was made and sold, its reception when released in 1941 and eventual triumph.

Included in the book are eighty-five photos, mostly off-screen shots by Alexander Kahle, the RKO staff snapper. I thought it was a pity the book wasn't better produced to show of the photos, studio documents and the twenty-page souvenir program featured in the book's back pages. Nicely a long Index is included.

As historical background to the movie rather than an aesthetic analysis of Citizen Kane (plenty of these listed by Amazon) Lebo's book can't be beat.

Beautiful, inspiring collection of poetic figure drawings and thoughts by master draftsman Michael Mentler.

This 180-page volume is a beautiful, 12" x 12", hardbound table top book of excellent quality. Rich with hundreds of drawings, Mentler takes us on a tour-de-force journey about "seeing" the human form in all its nuance through his powerful, and recognizable drawings. The artist conjures up geniuses of the past, like Leonardo da Vinci and Albrecht Durer. Many of the pages contain his handwritten notes, displaying an artistry of penmanship in its own right. Born of countless hours of study and practice, the vast majority of these drawings, if not all, are constructed from the prolific imagination of the artist. Mentler demonstrates a facility for depicting the figure in space from virtually any angle or perspective. Beyond conveying a clear understanding of anatomy, he expressively turns and manipulates form in a way that is elegant and poetic. The margins and sidebars frequently contain Mentler's thoughts about form, weight, shapes, light, space, line, value, movement, and so much more. This book will serve as a wonderful addition to any library where the individual thirsts for inspiration in their quest to develop their skills in drawing the human figure.

That is one of the great things about this book

I had the opportunity to study with Michael for and year-and-a-half before moving to Philadelphia to continue my studies at Studio Incamminati, and this book summarizes his philosophies on art and the figure in a grand way. There is no table of contents; instead you are thrown directly into the workings of his mind and the wisdom of his accumulated experience. His drawings, done in pen and ink (which allows for no correction of the image, unlike graphite or paint), reflect a deep, structural understanding of the human figure unlike any other. On each page, you are presented with several images compiled from one of his numerous sketchbooks along with snippets of wisdom that hint at the deeper meaning of art as a whole. That is one of the great things about this book, that the subject matter always sits in a broader context, never letting one mistake the forest for the trees. I think he is trying to show us that the overarching principles are timeless; it is in their interpretation that great art is made. Highly recommended.

Absolutely brilliant.

This is the fourth book in the series. These books can be read as standalones but seriously I recommend you start from the beginning as this author is going to take you on a journey you won't wanna forget.

Natasza puts so much love and care into these stories that it radiates off the pages. She has done such a fantastic job that to me these are characters no more. They are my friends who I care about. When they are going through pain I feel as if my
heart is gonna break. When they are happy you can see a big grin on my face. You get the idea???

Each book in this series focuses on a different subject that matters to the warrior. In this book Natasza deals with faith and loss. She did this in such a way that if I wasn't smiling or crying then I had goosebumps.

I'm not going into the storyline in my review. I don't want to spoil it for anyone. However I think this is Nataszas best book so far.

As a reviewer and a blogger I read hundreds of books. I read this book while on a long car journey. These 'friends' sucked me right in and I lost track of everything until Id finished.

I really can't recommend this book highly enough. It's a really brilliant work of art.

It's gonna blow you away!!! Again and again and again and again and.....

This is the 4th book in the continuation of the Warrior’s Challenge Series. It is also a great standalone read. Once again Natasza will move you through every emotion you never thought you could feel in a book. Let’s be honest, once of your greatest fears is Bioterrorism and Natasza hits home with Code Name: Luminous. With a deadly virus knocking down America’s door, Petty Officer Tony Bale and his captivating aerialist, Lumin, race against time to defeat the crazy madman with nothing but death and destruction to all Americans on his mind. Through it all, Tony and Lumin need each other not just to save the day, the world, and most importantly each other, but also to open their hearts to a connection stronger than the power of the sun. Get ready readers……This Mission will blow you away!!!!

My favorite yet!

I loved Tinman and Lumin's story. There are quite a few times Code Name: Luminous brought tears to my eyes. Well rounded characters and intense drama draw you in, wrapping around you to keep your attention. I love seeing how all the characters interact and grow as each of the Warrior's Challenge series continues.

The feel of the military jargon and the scientific facts that were used bring authenticity to the story. Hope this never really happens! But WOW, what a fantastic story.

Code Name: Luminous just gives me another reason to love Navy SEALs.

`It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle-- a healthy lifestyle.'

Author and health enthusiast Philip Green performed a self-devised and tested experiment in nutritional health. Coming to the US as an international student he moved from the lithe physique to the `all-American' chubby overweight fast food posture in nine years. Unhappy with the new look, he devised a diet that centered on oatmeal - a diet that in three months time allowed him to lose 42 pounds of flab and create a stir among friends who asked his secret. That was the genesis of this book - a short but well written book on Philip Green's Oatmeal Diet.

One aspect that makes Philip's so valuable is his natural way of addressing his readership. He opens with his own history, shares some internet postings that brought him to examine his new found girth, and his Costco discovery of `Coach's Oats', and voila!: `one weekend morning I woke up hungry and I saw the bag of oats on the kitchen counter, unopened. Read the instructions on the back and found this: "Eating oatmeal can help your heart 3 ways! It helps to lower cholesterol, promote healthy arteries, control blood pressure." Some really healthy food, huh? I boiled some water and in no time I had my bowl of oatmeal ready. Found a banana and diced it inside, and then I added some milk. It was so good that I had the same for lunch. Fast forward three months, I'm 37, weigh 198 pounds down from 240, feel like 25 again, have more energy than ever, play basketball with high school students every night, own an entirely new wardrobe (pants size went down from 36 to 34/ 32, shirts from XL to M), and most importantly-- I like myself.' And he informs us that with the Oatmeal Diet we will lose weight while building strength, we sill not feel hungry, we sill not be counting calories, and we will have more energy that ever.

The lesson begins with an excellent nutritionist's view of oats and their benefits (rich in antioxidants, high concentration of protein, lower LDL cholestrol) and moves through the various kinds of oats (steel cut, raw oats, whole oat groats, rolled oats, oat bran, oat flour, etc), defines a healthy diet (recommending the Harvard diet (heavy on vegetables and fruits, whole grains, protein like fish, plant oils, increase fluid intake), and all of this information and considerably more he rolls out in the chapters What's a Healthy Diet, Breakfast or First Meal, Oatmeal Every Day, How Oatmeal Can Help You Lose Weight, Exercise, Simple Lifestyle Changes to Help You Lose Even More Weight with the Oatmeal Diet, Your Complete Oatmeal Diet Plan, and excellent appendices: How to Recognize Wholegrain Foods and Health Benefits of Breakfast. Solid Diet Strategy, Well Presented

A lot of us would love to lose weight, but don’t know where to start or how to go about it. As the author of the book notes, weight loss is kind of simple in one respect, but complex in other respects. The Oatmeal Diet is an interesting approach to the challenge of weight loss and the author goes into his approach and its merits very well. There is a decent amount of support for using oatmeal for weight loss and indeed, that is one of the reasons that oatmeal was popular for so long. The diet discussed is one that will work for some people, but not for others, as is the case with pretty much any type of diet. I know from experience that it wouldn’t work for me, partly because oatmeal doesn’t keep me full. Nevertheless, it is still a good diet strategy and the author presents it very well in the book.
