About the Author
Mark Dampier has been head of research at Hargreaves Lansdown, the UK's largest independent stockbroking firm since 1998. Can be confusing, but heads in the right direction.

Dampier's book provides an overview of investment into managed funds. It elucidates the differences between certain types - such as active and passive - and attempts to construct a criteria for filtering out a potentially good fund. However, there are many self-defeating claims. One example of these is when he discusses what fund investment style between growth and value may be better: "The trouble is that both styles can go in and out of fashion, sometimes for years at a time." (P. 74). Such assertions leave the reader confused and reduce confidence in determining a sound fund. Nevertheless, Effective Investing: A simple way to build wealth by investing in funds does offer good advice, insomuch that it encourages regular saving, and for potential investors to read into the fund's management before investing.

Effective Investing

Mark Dampier is a well-respected figure in the UK Financial Services Industry, and this book will mainly be of interest to anyone who is interested in investing money into managed funds, which is his area of specialisation. He makes the point early on that anybody who is thinking about investing will do better if they acquire enough knowledge to have a proper input into their financial decisions, and he also makes the point that it is not really all that difficult to get to grips with these decisions.

I am not sure whether this book is intended for people with absolutely no previous knowledge of investment matters. Novices may find that they would benefit from more detailed information about the nuts and bolts of a number of different aspects, for example, Platforms, ETFs, Bonds and Taxation. Nevertheless, these items all get some coverage in the book, and I think that they are covered in a way that would be accessible even to beginners. This book is very much based on Mark's personal areas of expertise, and his detailed descriptions of funds that he personally chooses, and buys for himself, make this volume seem very up-to-date and relevant, though this may also have the unavoidable effect, in years to come, of making it seem to become dated relatively quickly.

Clearly, Mark works in the United Kingdom, and there are differences in funds, taxation and procedures from those that exist in the US, but I guess that the basic principles of investing in managed funds will be comparable wherever you are.

My overall take on this book is that it has the feel of an informal overview given by a very knowledgeable expert, who is genuinely trying to give readers the benefit of his long experience in the field in a helpful and extremely honest way. I don't think you can ask for much more than that. Thanks Mark!

Deepening of Perception

Henri would not relate directly to his students while they were working; instead he would return to the classroom when it was empty, observe the various works of his students, and leave them notes to encourage and give direction to their work. Mostly these notes were poetic, metaphorical, oblique to the actual work. Henri, this great artistic soul, spoke through the work of his students, to the essential artist in them, deepening their connection to this in themselves and opening the doors for this essential artist to a truer expression. This book is a collection of those notes, to read cover to cover, or to open and read a page for insight into one's art or one's life. I myself have found that I have no apparent artistic ability, but through this much read and much appreciated little book, I have been made into an artist in my own inner and outer life and expression. I live a little deeper and with a greater clarity. My heart is opened with each reading. Every artist, philosopher and Lover of life should have the pleasure of this , the heart of Robert Henri.

Not just for the artist.

My friend who was an artist gave me this book to read. Now it is one of the few that I carry around at all times. Robert Henri saw that there is no division between art and life. To be an artist, or trully alive for that matter, one has to experience life to his fullest. This means finding yourself and the people/things/and way of living that inspire you. When beauty strikes you so, and your full of love and joy it is hard not to do things beautifully. Henri tells us to find that beauty within us and the rest will follow. And one of the most enjoying things I found about this book was that the authors personality is very bright in every sentence. It made the book a great read. To enjoy this book, you need not to know art but to know life.

Twenty two years ago when I discovered this book I could not have imagined the impact it would continue to have on my life. Robert Henri speaks of both the technical side of art and the art experience. I have re-read this book, a little bit at a time, many times over the years and have found something new to appreciate each time.

While I find less and less time in my life for my artwork, I am able to enjoy beauty and clarity in all of it's everyday forms. The trick is to remember to capture it in your mind. When I feel I have lost the ability to appreciate everyday beauty, I pick up this book. It never fails to rejuvinate my mind and inspire me.

one of the main objectives of expose of solid waste management is to bring together the scientific and technological community, the decision makers,the non-goverenmental organisations and lthe public of this city.
solid waste management is any city is a multidisplinary and multilevel system. i would like to took at the system as a whole from the followings aspects.
-waste handling and transporation -disposal and recycling -administration,management and finance -role of various agencies
i belive that providing a collective forum for professionals amongst us to express their views on the subject,from the angle of their areas of specialisation, will facilities generation of new ideas and approaches for
- addressing the issues

Environmental Engineering book review

This is the first time I have ever used Amazon to buy a book and at first I was kinda sceptical. You know buying the book online and it not being what you expect it to be, but, the book was in excelent condition and everything worked out great. The only thing though was the mailing part of this process, it took a little longer than expected but worked out okay anyway. Over all i will more than likely start buying more from amazon!
